This week’s edition covers a variety of subjects. Bill- S2 is a major focus for First Nations who disagree with the second generation cut-off for status. A few articles deal with this subject and one solution raised is a one parent rule. “Our people are our people. No law should tell us otherwise,” says Chief Tammy Cook-Searson of the Lac La Ronge Saskatchewan First Nation. Bill C-21 dealing with the Metis Nation is of concern to First Nations. The implication for overlaping territories and Treaty Rights raise concerns for First Nations. DRIPA remains a subject of interest as does Treaty Rights. First Nations are actively pushing for consultation and equity participation as seen in the article pertaining to Nova Scotia Chiefs and Off Shore Wind. I find the article pertaining to collaboration among First Nations enlightening. Chief LaRocca of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation believes First Nations should not only be exploring potential opportunities how they can benefit, but also ways to join forces with other First Nations for collaborative efforts.
