This week’s articles reflect on the issues and concerns as it relates to reconciliation. I was pleased to participate in the signing of an exciting agreement pertaining to a transportable small nuclear reactor which has tremendous economic and strategic implication for Canada and it is driven by First Nations, See the article re BMXT. While on a moose hunt this week I reflected on the importance aspect of relationship building for those wanting to partner with First Nations. The hunting analogy is shown in the introduction on the articles below.

Canadian Indigenous investment: Canada and the European Union plan to announce a series of new agreements at a summit in Montreal on 29 to 30 October, covering critical minerals, digital trade and firefighting aircraft, according to a draft joint statement reported by Agence France-Presse via Canadian Affairs.
Among the planned announcements is a pact allowing the European Investment Bank (EIB) to finance Canadian critical minerals projects directly. The two parties will also sign a digital trade agreement and jointly purchase 50 water bombers from Canadian manufacturer De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited for deployment against European wildfires by 2030.
Canada holds deposits of more than 34 critical minerals and is a leading global producer of 10 minerals considered essential to the energy transition. More than 70 per cent of those minerals sit on or adjacent to Indigenous territories.
This includes Norway House Cree Nation‘s Minago nickel and magnesium project in Manitoba; the Tłı̨chǫ Government and Det’on Cho Group of Companies‘ Arctic Economic Security Corridor, which would open access to 25 of Canada’s 34 listed critical minerals in the Northwest Territories; and the Ring of Fire in northern Ontario, where the Marten Falls and Webequie First Nations are building supply roads to one of the largest undeveloped chromite deposits in the world.
In August, the United States demanded a right of first refusal on all critical minerals mined in Canada as part of trade negotiations. Canada refused. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen then proposed making Canada the EU’s first ever associate member.
The draft statement describes the partnership as a potential model for countries seeking closer economic ties in a more volatile global order.
